Actress from Los Alamitos, known for her role in ‘Smallville,’ released from prison due to involvement in sex-trafficking cult – Orange County Register

Released from a California prison, actress Allison Mack, widely recognized for her role in the television series "Smallville," has completed her sentence for involvement in a sex-trafficking case linked to the notorious NXIVM cult.

Mack, most notably known for portraying the close friend of a young Superman in the show, was convicted in 2019 and sentenced to three years in prison in 2021. She had pleaded guilty to charges of manipulating women into becoming sex slaves for NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ online records, the 40-year-old Mack was released on Monday from a federal prison in Dublin, California, situated near San Francisco. The Albany Times-Union was the first to report her release.

As part of a cooperative arrangement with federal authorities, Mack avoided a lengthier prison term and assisted in building evidence against Raniere, who was ultimately sentenced to 120 years in prison for sex-trafficking offenses.

Mack played a crucial role in providing prosecutors with substantial evidence demonstrating how Raniere established a clandestine society that involved brainwashing women, branding them with his initials, and coercing them into sexual relations with him.

Notably, other prominent figures within the group included Clare Bronfman, an heiress to the Seagram’s liquor fortune, and a daughter of television star Catherine Oxenberg from the popular show “Dynasty”.

Prior to her sentencing in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, Mack renounced Raniere and expressed deep regret and remorse for her actions.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Mack was born in Germany, where her father pursued a career as an opera singer. The family later relocated to Southern California, where Mack ultimately graduated from the Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana, which is now known as the Orange County School of the Arts.

Before serving her sentence, she resided with her parents in Los Alamitos.
