Activist Claims Rudy Farias Was Not Missing, Rather a Victim of Abuse by His Mother

  • Houston police held a meeting on Wednesday with the family of Rudy Farias, who had been missing for eight years.
  • While searchers considered his reappearance a miracle, neighbors insist he was never actually missing.
  • “Something doesn’t add up,” stated a private investigator who had been involved in the case for years, speaking to Insider.

Rudy Farias, the Texas man who was reported missing eight years ago and was reportedly found, has alleged that he endured years of lies, abuse, drugging, and “slave”-like conditions imposed by his mother, according to a local activist.

Houston activist Quanell X revealed that he accompanied Farias during an interview with detectives at a Houston-area hotel on Wednesday. Quanell X’s voice trembled as he recounted Farias’ claims of being administered hallucinogenic drugs by his mother, being forced to perform her chores, and being made to sleep in her bed and assume the role of a father.

“No child should ever be subjected to such treatment by their own mother,” emphasized Quanell X during a press conference held on Wednesday.

Speaking to local media representatives, Quanell X shared that Farias stated he had returned after two days, only to be threatened with arrest by his mother. Farias alleged that she would hide him whenever investigators visited their house.

The Houston Police Department tweeted after the press conference that they would not comment on the interview between Farias and his mother, nor on the accuracy of certain details reported in the media.

Farias’ mother, Janie Santana, did not respond to attempts to contact her on Wednesday. It remains unclear whether she has been arrested or has legal representation.

In posts on Facebook and comments made to local news outlets, Santana expressed her joy over her son’s “discovery.”

Insider conducted interviews with four private investigators who had worked on Farias’ disappearance at various times over the past eight years, and all of them expressed doubts about the veracity of his mother’s claims.
