Miami Gardens, Fla., Oct. 8 (UPI) — De’Von Achane showcased his incredible speed and agility as he contributed to the Miami Dolphins’ 31-16 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. The rookie running back dominated the game with an impressive 151 yards, including a remarkable 75-yard sprint for a touchdown. Achane’s performance has been exceptional, and he now holds the record for the most touchdowns (seven) by an NFL player in their first four games since the Super Bowl era began in 1966.

“I owe it all to the offensive line,” Achane said in a post-game interview. “They make everything so easy for me. It’s not something you would expect from a rookie, so I hope to keep up this level of performance moving forward.”

Tyreek Hill, another speedy player on the Dolphins’ roster, made significant contributions with 181 yards and a touchdown on eight catches.

“When those guys get the ball in open space, you just know they’re going to score,” said quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had an impressive game himself, completing 22 of 30 passes for 308 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

In contrast, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones struggled under pressure, completing 14 of 20 passes but getting sacked six times. He eventually left the game in the fourth quarter due to a neck injury. The Dolphins displayed their dominance by picking up 22 first downs compared to the Giants’ 15, and outgained them with 222 rushing yards to their 85. The Dolphins set a record for the most yards in the first five games of a season, with a total of 528 yards, surpassing the previous record held by the 2000 St. Louis Rams (2,527).

“We know that teams will give us their best shot, so we need to continue working on our game and progressing,” said Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel.

The Dolphins started the game strongly, with Tagovailoa connecting with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle for a spectacular 2-yard touchdown on their first drive. However, a missed field goal by the Giants’ kicker gave the Dolphins another opportunity, which they squandered with an Achane fumble.

Fortunately, Achane redeemed himself with an impressive play. Taking a handoff and running to the left, Achane displayed his agility by changing direction and sprinting through an open lane between defenders to score a long touchdown, extending the Dolphins’ lead to 14-0.

The Giants managed to score their first points with a field goal by Graham Gano, but their efforts were quickly overshadowed by a breathtaking interception return by Giants cornerback Jason Pinnock. Pinnock caught a deflected pass and ran for a 102-yard touchdown, narrowing the deficit to four points. The Dolphins responded with a field goal to end the first half.

Hill further widened the gap in the second half with a 69-yard touchdown reception from Tagovailoa. The Giants managed to score another field goal, but the Dolphins sealed their victory with a touchdown run by Raheem Mostert. The game concluded with a field goal by Gano, leaving the final score at 31-16 in favor of the Dolphins.

The Dolphins’ defense was relentless, accumulating a total of seven sacks. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler led the charge with two sacks.

Giants coach Brian Daboll did not provide an update on Jones’ condition during the post-game news conference.

“We have a lot of talented players with the right mindset,” Daboll said. “Although the results haven’t been what we expected, we’ll regroup and prepare for next week. It’s disappointing to lose, but we need to learn from this and move on.”

The Dolphins (4-1) will face the Carolina Panthers (0-5) in their next game on October 15 at 1 p.m. EDT in Miami Gardens. The Giants (1-4) will play the Buffalo Bills (3-2) on the same day at 8:20 p.m. in Orchard Park, N.Y.
