When he woke up hours later, he found himself sprawled on the sofa with Spacey performing a sexual act on him. He pushed Spacey away and left the flat after the actor told him to go.
During the trial, the defense questioned the accuser’s timeline using records from Spacey’s phone, suggesting that Spacey called him during the time he claimed to be unconscious. The accuser countered that Spacey likely called him while he was unconscious to cover his tracks.
The accuser decided to come forward in 2017, inspired by the #MeToo movement and the sexual misconduct allegations against Spacey in the U.S. He revealed that he sued Spacey after being told by an American lawyer that he could potentially win $10 million, but denied fabricating the allegations for financial gain. He said that he went to the police after a friend suggested that reporting a crime would make him more credible before filing a lawsuit.
The trial will continue on Tuesday with a jury consisting of nine men and three women in Southwark Crown Court. If convicted, Spacey could face a prison sentence. Spacey, once a prominent figure in Hollywood, won Academy Awards for his performances in “The Usual Suspects” (1995) and “American Beauty” (1999). He served as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic theater from 2004 to 2015.
