  • T-Pain disclosed about the hardships he faced after achieving fame at a young age.
  • The singer gained fame at 21 in 2005 with the release of his debut album, “Rappa Ternt Sanga.”
  • “It was difficult for me, especially on my mental health,” he shared.

T-Pain candidly spoke about the difficulties he faced after achieving fame at a young age.

The now 38-year-old musician gained fame at the age of 21 in 2005 with his first album, “Rappa Ternt Sanga,” which featured hits like “I’m Sprung” and “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper).” He enjoyed several years of success, producing several chart-topping hits and collaborating with other artists.

Between 2007 and 2008, he dominated the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with 13 top 10 hits, including “Kiss Kiss” with Chris Brown, “Low” with Flo Rida, and “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’).”

Reflecting upon that period of success, T-Pain revealed to Insider that it was a difficult experience, not the dream he had imagined. He admitted to struggling with the pressures of touring and its effect on his mental health. “It was tough, but, you know, we got through it and here we are,” he said.

Pain acknowledged that he was not prepared for the difficult nature of success at the young age of 22. “It was always portrayed that when you’re on top of the world, you don’t have to do anything, you just sit back and let everybody do stuff for you,” he said. “But no, it’s way more work. It’s more work than not being at the top of it because when you’re number one, you have to stay number one, and that’s tough. I just wasn’t ready for it.”

When asked if he would have handled things differently if he had achieved fame at an older age, Pain said, “Oh, 100%. Absolutely. I would have been mentally prepared. I would have had a little more experience in life. It wasn’t fun at all. It was tough, man. At 22, I’m telling you, I didn’t know anything.”

T-Pain’s early struggles did not deter him from pursuing his music career. He recently released his seventh studio album, “On Top of the Covers,” an eight-track covers album on which he performed renditions of songs by Sam Cooke, Journey, and Black Sabbath, among others. Recently, he teamed up with Lipton Iced Tea for a fun spin on Len’s 1999 hit, “Steal My Sunshine,” to promote the brand’s new Pops of Sunshine frozen ice pop range with flavors including green tea citrus and peach iced tea.

When asked about future plans, T-Pain expressed his desire to create more cover albums annually and even dreams of making an album with a live orchestra in the vein of Hans Zimmer. “It’s gonna be some Hans Zimmer-type sh*t,” he said.
