According to expats, this is the topmost advantage of living in the U.S.

According to the latest “Expat Insider” report from Internations, the U.S. stands out for its career opportunities, despite not being the top choice for expats to live and work abroad. The report ranks the U.S. highly in terms of the local job market and personal career prospects, placing it at No. 1 in these categories. It also ranks No. 7 for work culture and satisfaction.

However, when it comes to overall expat experience, the U.S. falls to 30th out of 53 destinations. Despite this, 72% of expats in the U.S. express happiness with their lives, which is on par with the global average. The main drawbacks are related to quality of life, such as healthcare, travel, transit, and personal finances. Expats often find the cost of living in the U.S. to be too high, and the country is rated as the second worst in terms of affordability and accessibility of quality healthcare. Additionally, the availability of public transit also ranks poorly.

Once expats settle in, they find it easy to adapt to the language and appreciate the unrestricted access to online services, high-speed internet, and convenient cashless payment options in the U.S.

The “Expat Insiders” report surveyed over 12,000 respondents and evaluated destinations based on five indices: quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finance, and an “expat essentials” index. The most common reasons for expats coming to the U.S. are education (15%) and work (13%), with healthcare, information technology, and education being the most popular industries. Some expats also move to the U.S. for love (12%).

Overall, Mexico takes the top spot as the preferred destination for expats, followed by Spain, Panama, Malaysia, and Taiwan, based on overall happiness with their lives abroad.
