In an exclusive cover story for the December 2022 issue of Vogue, Jennifer Lopez opened up about revitalizing her romance with Ben Affleck and her decision to take his last name.

In response to the criticism Lopez faced for changing her last name to Affleck, the renowned actress from “Hustlers” described it as a “power move” in an interview with Vogue.
“I have full control over my life and destiny, and I feel empowered both as a woman and as an individual,” she stated. “I understand that people may have their own opinions about it, and that’s alright. But in my perspective, it has a romantic significance. It still holds tradition and romance to me, and maybe that’s just who I am.”
Lopez also reminisced about the carefree and passionate love she and Affleck shared during their relationship in the early 2000s.
“We didn’t feel the need to hide or be discreet,” she recalled. “We were unapologetically ourselves, and unfortunately, it came back to haunt us.”
Lopez revealed that she and Affleck reconnected when he sent her an email expressing his admiration for her during a cover story for InStyle.
“I never denied that, for me, there was a deep and genuine love between us,” she admitted. “The people close to me are aware of how special he was in my life. When we reconnected, those feelings were still very real for me.”
Lopez cautioned that she wouldn’t recommend her and Affleck’s journey to everyone.
“Sometimes, you outgrow one another or grow in different directions,” she explained. “The two of us lost and found each other.”
Affleck also shared heartfelt sentiments about Lopez, describing her as an inherently kind, loving, and magical person.
“That’s exactly who she was twenty years ago,” he remarked. “Perhaps she sees all the changes she’s made, whereas when I look at her, I primarily see someone who has managed to preserve, against all odds, the quality that has always astounded me: a boundless heart full of love. She embodies the person I aspire to be.”
