The Metro A Line will continue to operate with single-track service on Wednesday as maintenance crews repair the overhead power lines for the A and E light rail trains.
Due to single tracking, service frequency from Pico Station for both the A Line to Union Station and the E Line to Pico/Aliso Station will be at 20-minute intervals. Trains will share a single track to navigate through the affected area. This information was provided by Jose Ubaldo, a spokesperson for Metro.
On Tuesday, a “loss of power” on the Metro train system in downtown Los Angeles resulted in a disabled train getting stuck in a subway tunnel temporarily. Service in the area was delayed throughout the evening.
Metro was alerted to the issue around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Ubaldo.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the scene to assist in evacuating the 47 passengers on the train stuck in the tunnel north of the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station in downtown. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the power outage is still unknown, but it affected service on the A (Blue) and E (Expo) lines, which run on the Regional Connector tracks in downtown Los Angeles.
Metro has stated that the power loss occurred between the Pico and Historic Broadway stations. Initially, buses were brought in to transport passengers between the disabled stations.
As of early evening, Metro informed that repairs were still ongoing on the overhead power line system between the Seventh Street/Metro Center and Grand Avenue/Bunker Hill stations. Therefore, delays in the area are still expected.
