Super Wheels’ Spectacular ‘End of an Era’ Party in Kendall: Exclusive Photos

Miami’s iconic roller rink Super Wheels had its glorious farewell celebration as the disco kings and queens of Kendall took to the rink for the final time on Saturday night. The venue, which opened as Hot Wheels in 1987, hosted an epic End of an Era party, headlined by DJ Laz, who started his career there. Fellow DJs Irie and Zog also began their musical journeys at the famous 30,000 square foot rink.

In attendance were locals who grew up skating at Super Wheels and have now returned with their own children. Owner and operator Tom Mitchell addressed the crowd with a heartfelt speech, causing some tears to be shed. However, the evening ended on a positive note, as it was announced that the building had been purchased for $6 million by Kendall couple Gabe Colon and Pam Mostacero, who plan to reopen the center as Miami Roller Rink on January 1, 2024.

Renowned Miami artist Rey Jaffet was seen skating around the rink, adding to the creative atmosphere of the night. The new owners assured the public that they aimed to preserve the nostalgic and fun essence of Super Wheels, with plans to renovate the snack bar and update the facilities. Super Wheels’ final day of operation is scheduled for December 30, marking the end of an era for this beloved South Florida institution.

The roller-skater community eagerly awaits the future of skating in Miami, appreciating the historical significance of Super Wheels while looking forward to the updated and revitalized Miami Roller Rink facility.
