Samsung is pushing the boundaries of AI on its smartphones. In a recent blog post, the company introduced its vision for “a new era of Galaxy AI” and teased an upcoming feature that utilizes artificial intelligence to provide real-time translations for phone calls.
“Galaxy AI represents a comprehensive mobile AI experience, combining on-device AI developed at Samsung with cloud-based AI through our collaborations with industry leaders,” Samsung explained in the post. “It aims to elevate your everyday mobile experience while prioritizing Galaxy-level security and privacy.”
Samsung’s upcoming live translate feature, dubbed “AI Live Translate Call,” will be integrated into the company’s native phone app. Samsung promises that “audio and text translations will appear in real-time as you speak” and assures that the translations will occur on the device itself.
Samsung anticipates the arrival of Galaxy AI “early next year,” hinting at its probable inclusion with the Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones, rumored to debut in 2024. Additionally, the company recently showcased Gauss, its generative AI model, which will likely power features on mobile devices starting next year, suggesting that Gauss will play a vital role in the Galaxy S24 lineup.
AI-powered features are poised to become the next arena for smartphone manufacturers. For instance, Google offers a suite of AI-powered tools for photo editing and enhancement in its Pixel 8 lineup. Moreover, Apple reportedly allocates substantial resources to AI training, indicating that such investments will likely result in AI-powered features for iPhones.
Furthermore, smartphone manufacturers will soon need to compete with AI-focused hardware products like Humane’s cellular-enabled AI Pin — you can get an exclusive sneak peek of the device in our leaked coverage ahead of Thursday’s launch.
