According to White House national security spokesperson John Kirby, the Russian military has resorted to executing soldiers who refuse to follow orders in their conflict with Ukraine. Kirby expressed concern over Russia’s disregard for the lives of its soldiers, stating that the United States believes there have been thousands of casualties resulting from orders given by their own leaders.
Kirby revealed, “Our sources indicate that the Russian military has been actively carrying out executions of soldiers who defy orders. We have also received information that Russian commanders are threatening to execute entire units if they attempt to retreat from Ukrainian artillery fire.”
Kirby framed these actions as an indication of Russia’s poor performance against Ukraine and the significant losses it has suffered. However, he cautioned that Russia still possesses offensive capabilities and could potentially achieve tactical advantages in the upcoming months.
He expressed his disdain for the mistreatment of soldiers, describing it as barbaric and a reflection of Russia’s weak military leadership and mishandling of the conflict. Kirby emphasized the lack of effective command and control, logistical deficiencies, and insufficient provisions for troops in the field as evidence of Russia’s shortcomings.
The national security spokesman also highlighted how the execution of soldiers underscores the desperation felt by Russia in terms of manpower during the war. He alleged that Russia is forcefully deploying inadequately trained and equipped young men, further exacerbating the situation.
