WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is set to embark on a crucial trip to Israel on Wednesday, aiming to de-escalate the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The visit comes after Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who has already made two trips to the region, revealed the upcoming visit during a press conference at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv.
“President Biden will reaffirm, as he has consistently done since the tragic loss of over 1400 lives, including at least 30 Americans, to the hands of Hamas terrorists, Israel’s right and responsibility to protect its people and prevent future attacks,” stated Blinken after an extensive meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Blinken also mentioned that Biden will work on formulating a plan to ensure the safe delivery of critical humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
Since the war began, the United Nations has been unable to provide essential supplies such as water, food, medical equipment, and fuel to Gaza, plunging the region into a dire situation. “We are witnessing a living nightmare,” expressed Juliette Touma, Director of Communications for the United Nations Relief Works Agency.
Addressing concerns about the security situation, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby highlighted that Biden’s visit was thoroughly assessed. Earlier during the day, Blinken himself had to take shelter in a bunker due to air raid sirens while meeting with Netanyahu. Kirby also mentioned that a U.S. congressional delegation had to shelter in place over the weekend.
In addition to Israel, Biden will travel to Amman, Jordan, to meet with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisiand, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The discussions in Jordan will focus on regional security, the release of hostages held by Hamas, and the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza.
“Our priority is to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches the people of Gaza without delay,” emphasized Kirby.
