“Blackburn Urges Urgent Removal of National Security Advisor Sullivan to Safeguard National Security

In a bold move, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has called for the removal of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, asserting that he has consistently provided misleading information about global security threats. Blackburn expressed her concerns in a letter to President Biden, highlighting Sullivan’s failure to accurately assess the situation in the Middle East.

Specifically, Blackburn pointed out that just days before the surprise attack by Hamas on Israel, Sullivan stated that the Middle East was experiencing a period of relative calm. However, the subsequent violence resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis, the abduction of 150 individuals, and the loss of 27 American lives, with 14 Americans still unaccounted for. Blackburn finds Sullivan’s assessment of the situation unacceptable.

The number of casualties in the conflict between Hamas and Israel continues to rise, with 29 confirmed dead Americans and 15 others still missing. The overall death toll has exceeded 3,000 people.

Additionally, Blackburn accused Sullivan of mishandling engagement with Iran and criticized his appeasement towards the country. She emphasized his involvement in the flawed 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal. Fortunately, this decision was later reversed, preventing further Iranian influence and the funding of terrorist activities.

This is not the first time Blackburn has called for Sullivan’s removal. She previously urged President Biden to dismiss him during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. On a platform now known as X, Blackburn stated, “Joe Biden needs to fire his national security team, starting with Jake Sullivan.”
