Florida Governor DeSantis advises residents under 65 to consider skipping newly approved COVID vaccine

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a virtual roundtable with Dr. Joseph Ladapo, the state’s surgeon general, and other doctors on Wednesday. During the discussion, DeSantis advised residents under the age of 65 not to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine. The governor highlighted that many people had concerns and mentioned that some physicians were already recommending the new shot for elderly individuals. Dr. Ladapo supported this recommendation, citing a lack of clinical trials and evidence regarding the effectiveness and benefits of COVID boosters. DeSantis emphasized that Florida was the first state to provide guidance based on truth rather than federal mandates. The governor had previously signed legislation prohibiting vaccine passports, vaccine and mask requirements in schools, and COVID-related requirements for businesses. These remarks came after the CDC recommended that everyone 6 months and older should receive the updated COVID vaccine. The FDA also approved the emergency use of the updated vaccine on September 11. It is important to note that DeSantis’ comments are not aligned with the recommendations of public health officials and medical experts, and this revised content does not endorse or support his statements.
