A woman was tragically found dead in her apartment in downtown Los Angeles, according to a report from the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday.
Officers from LAPD Central Area responded to a welfare check on Tuesday around 3:55 p.m. The check was initiated after concerns were raised about the woman’s well-being. The apartment, located on the 200 block of South Figueroa Street near the Harbor (110) Freeway, was the scene of the incident.
Upon entering the apartment, officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim, who has since been identified as Maleesa Mooney.
The LAPD Central Bureau Homicide unit took over the investigation following initial assessments by patrol officers. The ensuing investigation conducted by the Central Bureau Homicide detectives revealed that Mooney had indeed been killed inside her apartment.
The exact cause of Mooney’s death remains unknown, and an autopsy will be performed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
The police have reached out to the public for any information that may help identify the individuals responsible for Mooney’s tragic death.
