SEOUL — North Korea conducted a simulated “tactical nuclear attack” drill on Saturday, September 2, that included two long-range cruise missiles, state media reported Sunday, as leader Kim Jong Un inspected shipbuilding and munitions factories.
The drill, carried out early Saturday, serves as a warning to North Korea’s enemies that the country is prepared for nuclear war. Pyongyang has vowed to strengthen its military deterrence against Washington and Seoul.
The two cruise missiles, armed with mock nuclear warheads, were launched towards the West Sea of the peninsula and traveled 1,500 kilometers at an altitude of 150 meters.

During the same period, Kim visited the Pukjung Machine Complex, which produces marine engines, and a major munitions factory, highlighting the importance of enhancing North Korea’s naval forces.
“He emphasized that an upcoming plenary meeting of the Worker’s Party of Korea’s Central Committee will outline the modernization plans for the complex and the development direction of the shipbuilding industry,” stated the official North Korean news agency, KCNA.
No specific date for Kim’s visit was provided in the statement.
