Growing Concern among Pet Owners: Half of Dog Owners Now Hesitant about Vaccinating their Pets (Including Rabies), Some Associate Vaccines with Canine Autism

A survey suggests that an increasing number of dog owners are concerned about vaccinating their dogs in the aftermath of Covid. Boston University researchers surveyed 2,200 people and found that half of them had concerns about the necessity of mandating shots for diseases like rabies. Additionally, nearly 40 percent of respondents feared that vaccines could give their dogs autism, despite the lack of scientific evidence supporting this claim. Furthermore, a third of participants believed that the vaccines were not medically necessary, and a fifth suggested that the risks outweighed the benefits. This rise in vaccine skepticism among pet owners is a result of Covid mandates, which have resulted in fewer parents getting their children vaccinated against diseases like measles, potentially leading to a resurgence of once nearly eradicated illnesses.
