Ukrainians Showcase Decimated Russian Military Equipment during Independence Day Festivities

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently attended an official celebration in Kyiv to mark Ukraine’s 32nd Independence Day. Despite the ongoing invasion by Russia, Ukraine defiantly displayed destroyed Russian tanks along the city’s main street, demonstrating their resistance to Moscow’s aggression. Additional captured or damaged Russian military equipment was also showcased on Khreshchatyk Street. The display included various tanks, artillery pieces, missile systems, armored personnel carriers, and infantry fighting vehicles. President Zelensky participated in a quiet observance, during which an estimated 20,000 individuals took part. Due to fears of potential attacks, officials did not make any formal announcements about the celebrations. Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, following it up with a highly supported ballot initiative. Meanwhile, Russia continued its military assault, attacking Kherson and Dnipro. This resulted in one fatality and 16 injuries. President Zelensky assured reporters that Ukraine had no involvement in the plane crash that killed Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner Group. Prigozhin had fallen out of favor with Russian President Vladimir Putin after orchestrating a failed coup against the Russian military. It is widely recognized who is responsible for these events. The Wagner Group has played a significant role in supporting and leading attacks against Ukrainian forces throughout Russia’s invasion.
