Nikki Haley Would Back Trump as Nominee Even if Convicted of a Felony
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has indicated her support for former President Donald Trump as the Republican nominee in the 2024 race, even if he is convicted of a felony.
During the first Republican candidates’ debate in Milwaukee, Haley was one of six candidates who raised her hand when asked if she would support Trump as the nominee if convicted.
When pressed further, Haley did not explicitly say she would vote for a convicted felon but expressed her preference for Trump over the Democratic incumbent, President Joe Biden.
In an interview with ABC News, Haley stated, “I don’t even think it’s going to get to the point that Donald Trump becomes president. I think that I’m going to be the nominee and I think that we are going to win.”
Regarding Trump’s legal situation, Haley emphasized the principle of innocent until proven guilty, saying, “We’ll let these court cases play out. If he’s guilty, he’ll have to deal with it.”

When asked why she would support Trump if convicted, Haley cited her discomfort with a potential President Kamala Harris, referring to Biden’s vice president and running mate.
