Alaska Air Defense Zone Detects and Tracks Russian Military Aircraft

On Sunday and Monday morning, four Russian military planes entered Alaska’s air defense zone, as disclosed by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). However, NORAD has reassured that these planes were not considered a threat.

According to NORAD’s press release, the four warplanes were detected and tracked while operating within the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which surrounds the United States and Canada but is located in international airspace.

NORAD officials stated, “This Russian activity in the Alaska ADIZ occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat.”

Although the ADIZ is situated in international airspace, NORAD is responsible for monitoring and documenting foreign activity within the zone.

Recently, tensions have risen between the U.S. and Russia, as well as China, after Russian and Chinese warships conducted patrols near Alaska’s Aleutian Islands. Moscow and Beijing have clarified that these patrols were part of larger maritime drills in international waters.

Furthermore, American aircraft have frequently encountered Russian planes operating within or near the ADIZ for several years.
