Elderly Couple Claims Ryanair Imposed $140 Fee for Printing Boarding Passes

  • Ryanair charged an elderly couple $140 for printing their boarding passes, according to The Telegraph.
  • The couple mistakenly checked in for their return flight and didn’t have their boarding passes.
  • The wife expressed her disgust and stated that they had no choice but to pay the fee.

An elderly couple, aged 80 and 79, has accused Ryanair, a popular European low-cost carrier, of charging them $140 to print their boarding passes for their outbound flight to Bergerac, France, from London’s Stansted Airport. The couple mistakenly checked in for their return flight instead.

The wife described the airline’s website as confusing and mentioned that she didn’t realize she was checking in for the wrong flight. They had no choice but to pay the fee at the airport, which added to their stress.

A spokesperson for Ryanair defended the charge, stating that the couple had failed to check in online despite receiving an email reminder. The incident gained attention when the couple’s daughter posted about it on social media.

Ryanair’s customer service later reached out to the couple’s daughter, who filed a complaint and clarified that her mother mistakenly checked in for the wrong flight to ensure she could sit next to her disabled husband. Other passengers shared similar experiences and criticized Ryanair’s practice of charging for printing boarding passes.

Neither Ryanair nor the Jaffes have provided comments on the incident as of outside regular business hours.
