Despite its popularity, Apple has been criticized for releasing annual updates with only minor improvements, sticking to a similar design since the Series 4 in 2018. However, the Series 8 Ultra model ventured into new territory by catering to extreme athletes and offering enhanced durability capable of withstanding extreme temperatures.

A completely new design
The Watch X is expected to feature a thinner casing, providing a more conventional watch-like feel compared to the current tablet-like appearance. The Series 8 measures 10.7 mm in thickness, while the Ultra model is 14.4 mm thick. Most of the added thickness is attributed to the side locking mechanisms, which Gurman believes Apple will replace with magnets to embrace a more futuristic and streamlined approach.
As a result, existing Apple Watch bands may be incompatible with the 10th-anniversary wearable. Additionally, rumors suggest that the thinner casing will lead to a redesign in the battery layout.

However, the Watch X is speculated to introduce a microLED display that offers superior image quality compared to OLED.
