A Houston woman has been allowed to depart from the United Arab Emirates and is now en route back to the United States. Tierra Allen, a social media influencer known as “Sassy Trucker,” was stuck in Dubai for months after being arrested for “shouting” during a public argument with a car rental company. To secure her return, Allen paid a fee of approximately $1,300 to have a travel ban lifted by authorities, with assistance from the international nonprofit organization “Detained in Dubai.” A photo posted to Allen’s Facebook account in March 2023 shows her posing in front of the Global Village attraction in Dubai. Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, announced Allen’s imminent return and emphasized the role of media and public demand for accountability and justice in the UAE. Stirling also praised the attention brought to Allen’s case, as Emirati authorities often disregard due process, fairness, and human rights without international scrutiny. Allen’s arrest stemmed from a confrontation with a male employee of a car rental company, with the employee allegedly trying to intimidate Allen into paying money she didn’t owe. Stirling highlighted the prevalence of rental car extortion schemes and called for the UAE government to take action against this abuse of process. Allen, who was released on bail after her arrest, was unable to retrieve her belongings from the rental vehicle and later discovered fraudulent charges on her credit cards. The employee who accused Allen left the country after filing a police report. Despite being warned by UAE authorities not to return to Dubai, Allen expressed relief at being able to leave and stated that she had no plans to go back. She has not been active on her TikTok account since her detention.
