Discover the Experience of Doctor’s Visits Powered by AI

During medical appointments, it is common for doctors to spend a significant amount of time typing notes into a computer. This is done to ensure that clinical information is accurately recorded in the electronic health record. However, what if there was a way for artificial intelligence to take over this task?

Doctors and medical professionals who have embraced AI technology have discovered that AI-powered visits can save time and help address the issue of burnout. According to Dr. Julie O’Connor, a physician solutions consultant at Microsoft’s Nuance division, between 40% and 60% of clinicians are experiencing burnout. Additionally, there is a projected shortage of 90,000 physicians in the U.S. by 2025. It is crucial to alleviate the administrative burden on healthcare providers.

To tackle this challenge, Nuance has developed DAX Express, a clinical documentation app powered by generative AI. This innovative tool instantly creates comprehensive doctor’s notes, eliminating the need for manual transcription.

During a simulated doctor’s appointment at Microsoft’s demonstration center, I personally experienced the capabilities of DAX Express. As I discussed my struggles with plantar fasciitis, Dr. O’Connor utilized the app to record our interaction. Just one minute after she stopped the recording, the app generated a complete medical documentation, ready to be incorporated into my medical record.

What sets DAX Express apart is its ability to focus on relevant medical issues while omitting irrelevant conversation. Although it missed one recommendation regarding getting an X-ray, the app allowed Dr. O’Connor to easily include it afterward.

From a patient’s perspective, it was refreshing to engage with a doctor who wasn’t preoccupied with typing into a computer. The generated record accurately captured the essence of our conversation. Personally, I found this to be a positive experience, particularly if it could alleviate some of the administrative burden on my doctor and her staff.
