Pence Criticizes Biden Over Alleged Russian and Chinese Naval Patrol near Alaska

Former Vice President Mike Pence criticized President Biden on Monday following a report that a joint Russian and Chinese naval force had patrolled the coast of Alaska without entering U.S. territorial waters. The fleet consisted of 11 Russian and Chinese ships, and it was monitored by four U.S. destroyers and P-8 Poseidon aircraft. Pence, who is running for president in 2024, blamed this incident on what he perceived as Biden’s weak leadership.

Pence took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to express his concerns. He stated that under President Biden, Russia and China pose a threat to their neighbors and are now conducting joint naval operations off the American coast and in the Arctic north. Pence called for a new Commander-in-Chief who understands the threat and will invest in a larger navy, new shipyards, and a military capable of addressing the evolving challenges of the 21st century.

This display of aggression occurs against a backdrop of increased tensions between the United States, China, and Russia, particularly in relation to Taiwan and Ukraine. The specifics of the naval force’s activities were not disclosed by the U.S. Northern Command representative cited by The Wall Street Journal. The spokesperson confirmed the report but emphasized that the patrol stayed in international waters and was not deemed a threat.

Senator Dan Sullivan, a Republican from Alaska, commended the U.S. response to what he called a “new era of authoritarian aggression.”
