A gentleman from Kentucky narrowly missed out on claiming a remarkable $1 million Powerball prize when he nearly discarded an email alerting him of his extraordinary win.
“While checking my emails, I came across a message from the Kentucky Lottery,” the anonymous man disclosed to state lottery officials this week, revealing that he “almost deleted it.”
According to the Kentucky Lottery email, the man had won the $1 million Powerball prize, as stated by lottery officials.
“I am still struggling to comprehend it,” the victor informed lottery officials. “I have never had much luck in these games, so I am genuinely surprised.”
On Tuesday, the individual drove to the state’s lottery headquarters and received a lump-sum check of $715,000 after taxes.
The winner shared with lottery officials that he plans to use his newfound fortune to support his family and contribute to his retirement savings.
In the meantime, state lottery officials revealed that the man was just one number away from winning the $60 million Powerball jackpot on Saturday night.
Although his Powerball ticket matched the five white ball numbers, it did not match the Powerball number.
Officials confirmed that the man had purchased the winning ticket through the Kentucky Lottery’s website.
