Comparison: Taylor Swift’s Seattle Concerts vs 2.3 Magnitude Earthquake

  • Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour caused seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake in Seattle’s Lumen Field.
  • A local seismologist detected the “Swift Quake” on a seismometer.
  • The concerts generated the same pattern of signals on both nights, indicating a significant impact.

A local expert revealed that Taylor Swift’s recent tour in Seattle caused seismic activity resembling a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.

During the Eras Tour at Lumen Field on July 22 and 23, the lively performances and energetic pop music resulted in seismic activity detected by seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, as reported by CNN.

Caplan-Auerbach said, “I analyzed the data from both concert nights and observed identical pattern of signals. When overlaid, they were almost indistinguishable.”

The seismic impact from the concerts, dubbed “Swift Quakes,” drew comparisons to the 2011 “Beast Quake” caused by celebration of a 67-yard touchdown by Marshawn Lynch, known as “Beast Mode,” during a Seattle Seahawks game.

However, according to Caplan-Auerbach, the power of the Swifties’ excitement surpassed that of the NFL fans. “The shaking was twice as strong as ‘Beast Quake,'” she told CNN.

Caplan-Auerbach explained the difference in duration between the two events, stating that a touchdown celebration lasts only a few seconds, while a concert lasting about 10 hours can provide rhythmic energy that permeates the ground and causes continuous shaking.

The Eras Tour celebrates Taylor Swift’s 17-year career in the music industry, featuring songs from her entire discography, culminating with her 10th studio album “Midnights.” Forbes estimates the tour to generate $1.4 billion in revenue.

The Seattle stop broke the attendance record at Lumen Field, previously held by U2 in 2011. The US leg of the tour will conclude on August 9 in Los Angeles.
