This particular song is considered Ken’s “favorite song.”

When “Push” was released in the 1990s, it sparked controversy and was mistakenly seen as an anti-feminist anthem. However, lead singer Rob Thomas has clarified in past interviews that the song was inspired by an emotionally manipulative ex-girlfriend and the lyrics depict a person being pushed emotionally, not physically.

“It’s definitely not about violence towards women,” explained Thomas in an interview with MTV. “In fact, I reversed the perspective in the song. It’s actually about a manipulative relationship I experienced, highlighting emotional manipulation and violence.”

In the film “Barbie,” Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, struggles with his insecurities and fears not being loved by the stereotypical Barbie. These insecurities push him towards patriarchal tendencies and a desire to control Barbie Land, which he renames as “Kendom.”

Greta Gerwig, the director of “Barbie,” also expressed her admiration for the band in an interview with Indiewire.

“I must say, there were numerous discussions and feedback sessions from all angles. But the truth is, whatever appears in the movie, any reference – whether it’s ‘The Godfather,’ Matchbox Twenty, or Dave Matthews Band – I genuinely love it all,” Gerwig revealed. “I never include anything in a movie that I don’t have a deep fondness for. That’s the essence of it.”
