Riquna Williams, professional basketball player for the Aces, taken into custody for alleged felony domestic violence

Las Vegas Aces guard Riquna Williams was arrested on Tuesday for nine charges related to domestic violence. The 33-year-old player was released from custody on Wednesday. The charges against Williams include three felony counts of domestic battery by strangulation, one felony count of assault constituting domestic violence with a deadly weapon, one felony count of coercion constituting domestic violence with threat or use of physical force, and four misdemeanor counts of domestic battery in the first degree. Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Rebecca Saxe released Williams without bail due to her clean criminal record and ties to the community. Williams has also been placed under alcohol monitoring.

The Aces organization issued a statement condemning all forms of domestic violence and announced that Williams will not participate in team activities at this time. This is not the first time Williams has faced such charges, as she was previously arrested in April 2019 for domestic assault and threatening a person with a firearm. The WNBA took action and suspended Williams for 10 games back then. However, the burglary and assault with a firearm charges were eventually dropped.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court on August 2. During her initial court appearance, Judge Saxe expressed concerns about the serious and prolonged nature of the allegations. The WNBA Executive Director, Terri Carmichael Jackson, stated that the league is aware of the situation but did not provide further comment.

Despite her off-court issues, Williams played a crucial role in helping the Aces win their first championship last season. Unfortunately, she has not been able to play this season due to a lower back injury. Throughout her career, Williams has averaged 10.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. She played an instrumental role in the Aces’ title run by averaging 6.7 points and two rebounds per game.
