Another migrant bus from Texas arrives in downtown LA, Orange County Register reports

In a display of continued support and cooperation, another bus carrying migrants from Texas arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, marking the fifth bus to arrive since June 14, according to a statement from Mayor Karen Bass’ office.

Mayor Bass’ office stated, “One bus carrying migrants from Texas arrived at Union Station around 11:30 AM PT today. As part of our ongoing efforts, the city has been collaborating with various city departments, the county, nonprofits, and our faith partners to implement a plan that was established earlier this year. Upon being informed of the bus yesterday, we immediately put our plan into action.”

Specific details about the most recent arrivals are currently unavailable.

The previous bus arrival occurred on Tuesday and originated from Brownsville, Texas, before reaching Union Station in Los Angeles. These migrants came from various countries, including Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Venezuela, according to the L.A. Welcome Collective.

The L.A. Welcome Collective, consisting of organizations such as the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, released a statement on Wednesday, stating, “We reaffirm our commitment to working alongside the City and County of Los Angeles to offer support and guidance to asylum seekers upon their arrival. As a united front, we strive to be a beacon of hope for those seeking refuge and advocate for the dignified and respectful treatment of every individual, regardless of immigration status. Our goal, as nonprofits with a long-standing history of serving immigrants, is to facilitate their full integration into society. We are dedicated to maximizing our resources until the arrival of migrants ceases or until our nation finds a solution to fix the flawed immigration system.”

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles also expressed its dedication to welcoming migrants and supporting the collective efforts. They stated, “Our Archdiocese, built by immigrants, will always extend a warm welcome to our migrant brothers and sisters. We are honored to join the LA Welcomes Collective and contribute to the essential work carried out by our partner organizations. Our duty is to demonstrate compassion through accompaniment and pastoral care. Together, we hope to provide hope and advocate for the dignity and respect of all individuals. Our work with migrants is an act of mercy, reflecting the love of God for His people.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently declared a state of crisis in his state’s border region, suggesting that more groups of immigrants could follow. He expressed, “Texas’ small border towns are grappling with the overwhelming influx of thousands of individuals illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico due to President Biden’s failure to secure the border. Los Angeles, being a major city, is a prime destination for migrants, especially now that its local leaders have designated it as a sanctuary city. Our border communities bear the brunt of President Biden’s border crisis, and Texas will continue providing necessary aid until he fulfills his duty and secures the border.”

In June, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously passed a motion to draft a “Sanctuary City” ordinance, aiming to prevent the utilization of any city resources, property, or personnel for federal immigration enforcement.
