Freshman player Jeremiah Collins tragically loses life in car accident, devastating Austin Peay football community

Austin Peay football player Jeremiah Collins tragically lost his life in a single-car accident in Tennessee on Friday, according to officials. The 18-year-old defensive back was driving at a high speed while exiting a highway, causing his pickup truck to roll multiple times before coming to a stop in a grassy area, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Authorities confirmed that there were no signs of impairment at the crash scene, and Collins received immediate medical attention. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

“We are profoundly devastated and heartbroken by the loss of Jeremiah Collins,” expressed Austin Peay coach Scotty Walden in a statement released by the school. “Jeremiah was an exceptional young man who consistently displayed a remarkable attitude and energy. We mourn alongside the Collins family and offer our prayers and support during this tragic time.”

Collins, who was born in Louisville and played high school football there, joined Austin Peay’s 2023 class as a three-star recruit. He transferred to Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, for his senior year and graduated this spring.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Collins Family today,” expressed Austin Peay athletic director Gerald Harrison in a statement. “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of Jeremiah, and we will do everything within our power to provide support to his friends, family, and teammates during this difficult period.”
