Canada recalls Logan Paul and KSI’s ‘Prime Energy’ drinks due to excessive caffeine

Prime energy drinks, created by popular YouTube personalities Logan Paul and KSI, are currently being recalled in Canada. This decision comes shortly after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received a request to investigate the drinks. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall after Health Canada conducted a health risk assessment. Health Canada stated that Prime Energy should not be sold in Canada due to the assessment results. CFIA regulations state that energy drinks should not contain more than 180 milligrams of caffeine per serving and must include warnings for sensitive subpopulations, such as children. The CFIA acknowledged that some stores in Canada may be selling Prime Energy without approval and mentioned that both agencies were actively working to address this issue. A single-serve container of Prime Energy contains 200 mg of caffeine, exceeding the maximum allowed in Canada. The CFIA urges customers not to consume or sell these products. Marvin Ryder, an associate professor at McMaster University, emphasized the necessity of the recall when a product violates rules and regulations. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recently called for an FDA investigation into Prime Energy, expressing concerns about the product being marketed to youth. Schumer pointed out the amount of sponsored content and advertising targeting younger age groups. The drink faced bans in some UK schools due to health concerns, including heart problems, anxiety, and digestive issues. While the FDA does not have a specific caffeine limit for those under 18, the American Academy of Pediatrics advises against caffeine consumption in youths altogether. Prime Energy’s recall does not affect Prime’s Hydration product, which is caffeine-free.
