Kevin Costner’s Ex-Spouse Instructed to Vacate Within the Month

  • Kevin Costner achieved an early legal victory in his ongoing divorce case with his estranged spouse.
  • As per the court ruling, Christine Baumgartner must vacate their shared Santa Barbara compound by the end of July.
  • Baumgartner had requested a delay until August 15, citing concerns about child support and the rental market, but her appeal was denied.

Kevin Costner has secured a legal victory in his bitter divorce battle, with his estranged wife being ordered to vacate their shared residence in Santa Barbara by the end of July.

During a hearing on Wednesday, Judge Thomas Anderle rejected Christine Baumgartner’s plea to postpone her move until August 15.

Baumgartner’s legal team argued for the extension, citing concerns about the saturated rental market in Santa Barbara and the significant difference between the child support amount offered by Costner and the amount requested by Baumgartner.

Costner appeared virtually at the hearing while Baumgartner appeared in person, wearing a modest pink blouse, black slacks, open-toe kitten heels, and half-back hairstyle.

The couple was married for nearly 20 years before Baumgartner filed for divorce in May, citing irreconcilable differences.

In the ongoing acrimonious case, Baumgartner has accused Costner of providing a meager $30,000 per month for child support, canceling her credit card, and leaving her with limited funds as a stay-at-home mom with no income.

Costner, in his filings, stated that he imposed these limits after Baumgartner used the cards to spend $45,000 on a Los Angeles-based lawyer and $40,000 on her Santa Barbara-based attorneys.

The former couple shares three children – Cayden, 14, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13. Baumgartner claims that she needs $248,000 per month to maintain their luxurious lifestyle.

According to Zillow, the median rent in Santa Barbara is $6,200, with less than 300 available rentals, whereas the median rent in California is $2,900.

Baumgartner, in previous court documents, mentioned that she has no assets except $50,000 in her checking account. She alleged that Costner earned $19 million last year and covered the family’s $6.6 million expenses.

After Baumgartner filed for divorce, Costner sought her eviction from their marital home, referring to a clause in their prenuptial agreement that granted her 30 days to move out after divorce proceedings commenced.

Court documents reveal that Costner paid Baumgartner $1 million for a new house and offered to cover the mortgage, insurance, and taxes for a year.

Baumgartner accused Costner of attempting to force her and the children out of the house before a child support order was in place, an allegation which he has refuted.

In a declaration on June 28, Baumgartner stated, “Kevin wants me to rent a place without a financial plan in place. However, I have our three children to think about. It is contrary to their best interests to commit to a rental that I may not be able to afford, particularly as that would ultimately lead to multiple relocations.”
