Berlin – The disappearance and suspected murder of British toddler Madeleine McCann have taken a new turn as a former acquaintance of the prime suspect, Christian Brueckner, has come forward with chilling information. Helge B., whose identity is being protected by German authorities, revealed in an interview with a German newspaper that he had a shocking conversation with Brueckner.
Authorities in Germany, Portugal, and the U.K. have been investigating the McCann case for almost two decades but have found little concrete evidence. Even the recent search near a reservoir yielded no new insights.
Helge B., a key witness in the case, has been under the protection of Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) for years. He first connected investigators to Christian Brueckner, who is currently serving a prison sentence for a separate crime.
In his interview with Germany’s biggest tabloid, Bild, Helge B. disclosed that he initially found Brueckner to be a pleasant person. However, he later discovered disturbing videos in Brueckner’s apartment, showing him sexually assaulting women. “I was completely shocked,” Helge B. said.
The two men met again in 2008 at a festival in Spain. Brueckner asked Helge B. if he still traveled to Portugal for business. Helge B. responded that there were increased police checks since McCann’s disappearance, remarking, “I don’t understand how the little girl could disappear without a trace.” Brueckner chillingly replied, “She didn’t even scream.”
The next day, Brueckner disappeared, suggesting that he may have become aware of Helge B.’s suspicions. Helge B. attempted to contact London’s Metropolitan Police multiple times without immediate response. In 2018, he was contacted by German Federal Criminal Police due to the need for witnesses in another case involving Brueckner.
Regarding McCann’s disappearance, Helge B. believes that Brueckner had initially planned a break-in at the McCanns’ vacation apartment but changed his course upon finding the children asleep, ultimately taking Maddie. “That probably wasn’t planned at all,” Helge B. stated. While he suspects Brueckner is responsible for the abduction, he is unsure if McCann was killed.
