Australia at 43-1 After the 10th Over (Mooney 18, Perry 0)
It turns out that Cross’s delivery to Litchfield would have missed off stump. Litchfield walks off, disregarding Mooney’s attempts to discuss a review. She might have felt slightly embarrassed as she offered no stroke.
Mooney hits two back-to-back boundaries off Bell, the first one over the covers and the second one through mid-off.
Penelope writes, “It’s quite refreshing to not have endless chants and repetitive songs in this match! Don’t miss the Barmy Army at all.” Personally, I can understand both perspectives.

The exceptional Elysse Perry, with a Test average of 75, comes in at No3.
WICKET! Australia at 35-1 (Litchfield LBW b Cross 23)
Mooney gets lucky as she tries to flick Cross over square leg and gets a big leading edge that flies over the slips for two runs. Cross has been targeting the left-handers by tightening her line. However, she still places all the catchers behind the wicket instead of in front, except for herself. She drops Mooney off her own bowling. Mooney checks a drive to the right of Cross, who fails to hold on to a difficult catch in her follow-through.
While Mooney seems a bit unsteady, the debutant Litchfield appears to be in excellent form. She reaches the twenties with a beautifully executed shot through extra cover. Unfortunately, she is soon dismissed. Litchfield offers no stroke to the next ball, which hits the pad in front of off stump. Anna Harris raises her finger, making it a close decision. It probably hit the outside of off stump, and Litchfield departs after a promising 23.

Australia at 28-0 in the 8th Over (Mooney 7, Litchfield 19)
Bell delivers a ball with extra bounce to Litchfield, who comfortably drops it well short of second slip. Bell ends the over with a yorker that Litchfield digs out. The pitch doesn’t seem great so far.
Lisa Sthalekar tweets, “A bit disappointing to see that there isn’t much carry for the bowlers. Looks like plenty of runs are on offer in the #WomensAshes.”

Australia at 27-0 in the 7th Over (Mooney 6, Litchfield 19)
Litchfield displays her skills square on the off side and cracks another widish delivery from Cross to the point boundary. Mark Butcher advises Cross to avoid that line on this pitch and to attack the stumps instead.
Joe Kearney asks if there is a YouTube link for the women’s test commentary, similar to how it was provided for the men’s test. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the link. Can anyone assist?

Australia at 23-0 in the 6th Over (Mooney 6, Litchfield 15)
Cross’s length delivery beats Litchfield on the angle. The pitch seems slow, and England’s wicketkeeper, Amy Jones, is taking deliveries at ankle height. England may need to adjust their strategy and position catchers in front rather than behind the wicket.
Litchfield tries to leave Cross’s delivery at the last minute, but it guides the ball on the bounce to slip. Cross delivers a fantastic over, proving to be England’s best so far.
Guy Hornsby shares his excitement for the Test match and mentions Ali Mitchell’s story about the creation of the “ashes” for the women in 1998, involving a wok, matches, and a mini bat. It’s a reminder of the challenging history of women’s cricket. While Australia is the favorite, Hornsby can’t wait to see how the match unfolds.

Australia at 21-0 in the 5th Over (Mooney 4, Litchfield 15)
Litchfield plays an impressive square drive to score four off a widish outswinger from Bell. England adopts an attacking strategy, bowling full-length deliveries to maximize swing. The movement has been subtle, and the Australian openers seem comfortable for now.

Australia at 19-0 in the 4th Over (Mooney 4, Litchfield 13)
Litchfield demonstrates her skills by driving a widish delivery from Bell past backward point for four. England bowls with an attacking mindset, focusing on a full length to take advantage of any swing. The movement has been subtle rather than extravagant, but the Australian openers appear at ease.

Lauren Filer, the exciting debutant, is likely to be seen in action soon.
