MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has officially announced its intention to submit a petition for an increase in fare prices within the next two weeks.

The proposed petition seeks to raise the boarding fee by P2.29 and the rate per kilometer by 21 centavos.

MRT-3 director Oscar Bongan explained, “In the next 2 weeks, MRT-3 will file the petition, and the process will continue until it receives approval from the secretary.”

Jorjette Aquino, Assistant Secretary for Railways at the Department of Transportation, clarified that the current end-to-end fare per passenger is ₱115, with the government subsidizing P85 per passenger per MRT-3 ride.

Aquino assured that if the MRT-3’s petition is approved, the national government will continue subsidizing 70% of the fare adjustment.
