Olympian Removes Clothing Amid Payment Dispute

Diego Balleza, a prominent 10-meter diver, finds himself in a financial bind as he prepares for the Paris Olympics. Due to a dispute between World Aquatics and Ana Guevara, the head of Mexico’s national sports commission, monthly payments for aquatics athletes have been halted since January. In response to this lack of support, Balleza has made a bold move to generate income by joining OnlyFans, a platform where content creators share images and videos, some of which are explicit.

“It occurred to me to open an OnlyFans account because I am in need of income,” Balleza explains. “I have financial responsibilities, such as supporting my household and my mother, as well as paying bills. OnlyFans allows me to upload valid content and I am grateful that the people who subscribe to my page have been supportive and respectful.” Balleza charges a monthly fee of $15 for access to his content, with quarterly packages available for $40.50. So far, he has uploaded 136 images and 26 videos, and has engaged with over 14,000 fans. The earnings from OnlyFans help him replace his meager government scholarship of just over $1,700.

Apart from OnlyFans, Balleza has received support from the government of Nuevo Leon, where he resides and trains, as well as financial assistance from the private sector. Balleza is not alone in his struggle for funds; his diving partner, Kevin Berlin, has taken a different route by creating a coffee brand called Olimpiada Cafe with the help of his relatives. Additionally, the artistic swimming team has resorted to selling swimsuits and towels on social media to cope with the financial strain. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has acknowledged this issue and expressed his intention to explore ways to assist the athletes.

This situation highlights the challenges faced by athletes who depend on financial support to pursue their sporting careers. Despite the obstacles, Balleza and his fellow athletes are taking innovative approaches to secure the funds they need to prepare for the upcoming Olympics.
