Report Determines Boris Johnson’s Intentional Misleading of Parliament Regarding Lockdown Parties

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been found guilty of deliberately misleading Parliament multiple times in relation to COVID lockdown-breaking parties. The House of Commons privileges committee released a report accusing Johnson of “serious contempt.” Johnson, who resigned as an MP prior to the report’s publication, called it a “protracted political assassination” and criticized the committee for conducting a “witch hunt.” The committee recommended a lengthy 90-day suspension and stripping Johnson of his former MPs pass to Parliament. This marks the first time a prime minister has been found guilty of deliberately misleading the House. Despite Johnson’s defense that he was reassured by his staff, the committee rejected his claims and accused him of being complicit in a campaign of abuse and intimidation. Johnson’s last-ditch attempt to disparage the Tory-majority panel by calling for the resignation of its most senior Conservative member was deemed a distraction tactic. The committee is chaired by Labour MP Harriet Harman but has a Conservative majority.
