Semi and Bus Collision Claims 15 Lives of Seniors Heading to Casino

A tragic accident in Canada has claimed the lives of at least 15 people. A semi-trailer truck collided with a bus carrying senior citizens to a casino, and authorities are warning that the death toll may still rise. The circumstances of the accident, including which vehicle had the right of way, are still unclear. According to the CBC, approximately 25 seniors were on the bus, and 10 of them were hospitalized with injuries. The commanding officer of the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) expressed sympathy for the families of the victims, acknowledging the difficulty of not knowing if their loved ones will return home. The tragedy has led to public mourning and condolences from provincial officials, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as reported by CTV News.

Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene, with the bus engulfed in a “massive fire” and nothing left of it. The rural area was filled with tarps covering the bodies of the deceased. One man, whose parents were on the bus, shared the emotional toll of waiting for news. So far, only his mother, who is hospitalized, has been accounted for. The crash occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway near Carberry, where the Sand Hills Casino is situated, around 11:43 a.m. Both drivers survived the collision, and authorities are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine if any parties were at fault. The trucking company involved, Day & Ross, expressed condolences and pledged cooperation with the investigation. (Read more Canada stories.)
