Certain Diet May Lower the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes, New Study Reveals

According to a recent study conducted by scientists from the New York University Grossman School of Medicine, consuming 80% of your daily calories before 1pm may help prevent type 2 diabetes. The study focused on individuals with obesity and high blood sugar levels and compared early time-restricted feeding (eTRF) to a normal feeding pattern. Participants were assigned to one of the feeding patterns for a week and then switched to the other for another week.

Throughout the study, participants were provided with enough calories to maintain their current weight, and their blood sugar levels were monitored. The results showed that when individuals consumed most of their calories before 1pm, the amount of time their blood sugar levels remained high decreased compared to the group that ate as per their normal routine. Lead author Dr Joanne Bruno explained that this type of intermittent fasting could potentially prevent those with prediabetes and obesity from progressing to type 2 diabetes.

It’s important to note that throughout the study, participants’ weight remained constant. This suggests that the beneficial effects of eTRF are not solely dependent on weight loss. This study is the first of its kind to highlight the impact of this specific type of fasting on metabolic health.

The findings of this study were presented at the Endocrine Society Annual Meeting in Chicago and offer a new dietary strategy for diabetes prevention. As always, it’s essential to maintain a balanced diet rich in carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, and proteins, and to consult with a healthcare professional before making any significant changes to your eating habits.
