“Elemental” – A Powerful and Thrilling Film Review with Bold Metaphors, Lacking in Subtlety.

In theaters on Friday, “Elemental” is a beautiful story with stunning visuals. Although not as subtle as some of Pixar’s finest works, the film is still worth seeing. The city in which “Elemental” is set is home to people of four basic elements: fire, water, earth, and air. Bernie and Cinder Lumen move to a Fire City neighborhood where they hope to create a better future for their daughter, Ember. Bernie wants Ember to take over the family shop one day, but Ember has a quick temper, which causes problems for the family.

Despite her father’s efforts to teach her to control her emotion, Ember loses her temper one day and accidentally causes a plumbing accident, attracting the attention of city inspector Wade Ripple. Trying to save the family store, Ember follows Wade into Element City, where she faces a series of obstacles that require the collaboration of all of the elements.

Pixar has tackled difficult issues before, with stories set in a variety of unusual settings. However, “Elemental” is one of the studio’s most inspired creations, as it tells the story of immigrants trying to build a community that resembles the country they left behind. While it may seem like a stretch to create metaphors for racism and prejudice using the basic elements, the film handles the messaging with surprising elegance.

Fire and water people are divided, in part based on legitimate fears at how one can extinguish or evaporate the other, but also due to irrational prejudices that have grown from those factors. The themes of racial strife and prejudice are not new, but the film handles them with tender care. Elemental and its residents are unique because of their Pixar-esque appeal, which includes adorable characters and the ability to use fire and water powers to interact with the environment.

The film’s overt themes of immigration and racism could be subtler, but its heart is in the right place. Notably, “Elemental” teaches audiences many valuable lessons, including the importance of sincerity and being true to oneself. It is also a reminder that just because someone may have a disability, it does not mean they are limited, as there are always other worthwhile ways for them to participate. Overall, “Elemental” provides a fantastic cinematic experience filled with humor and adventure.
