The Rental and Utility Relief Program of the City and County of Honolulu will resume accepting new applications next week, offering rent and utility assistance for up to six months for eligible renters. Starting at 2:00 p.m. next Tuesday, 2,000 new applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis at revitalizeoahu.org/renthelp.
In a press release, Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed the program’s essential role in assisting thousands of Oahu residents during the pandemic, keeping rental units affordable, and providing housing stabilization services. Meanwhile, Catholic Charities Hawaii and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement are available for additional assistance, beginning at 2 p.m. next Tuesday.
For those who prefer in-person assistance, various community events are scheduled throughout the summer, including an event on June 19 at the Nanakuli Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Since its launch in April 2021, the Rental and Utility Relief Program has granted approximately $216 million in federal funds to over 16,000 Oahu families struggling with housing expenses. The latest applications will be funded through $25 million in state and local fiscal recovery funds authorized by the Honolulu City Council in February.
