7th Grade Student Averts Accident When Bus Driver Loses Consciousness

In an extraordinary act of courage and maturity, a seventh-grader named Dillon Reeves saved the day on a school bus in Warren, Michigan. The driver had passed out, endangering the lives of all the students onboard, but Dillon quickly took action. He grabbed the steering wheel and hit the brakes, bringing the bus to a safe stop on a busy Detroit-area road.

With great presence of mind, Dillon shouted to the other students, “Someone call 911. Now!” His quick thinking prevented a potential catastrophe as the bus was veering towards oncoming traffic.

Recognized as a hero, Dillon’s brave act was captured on video. The footage shows the driver fanning herself with a baseball cap moments before Dillon took control of the bus. It is a testament to his maturity and responsibility.

Robert Livernois, superintendent of Warren Consolidated Schools, expressed his admiration for Dillon’s actions. He described it as an exceptional display of courage, especially considering his years of experience in education.

During the incident, adults assisted the students in exiting the bus safely through the back door. Livernois commended Dillon for his reliable presence and credited him for making it a good day despite the circumstances.

Dillon’s parents, Steve and Ireta Reeves, expressed their pride in their son. They remarked that Dillon has been driving with his father on country roads and into driveways since he was only four years old. They believe his early experience contributed to his quick thinking and driving skills.
