7 secret mouse features that will significantly simplify your work

Discovering new shortcuts that make life easier is always a joyful experience, no matter how long you’ve been using computers. While the Windows key is a relatively new addition to keyboards, many standard keys have their origins in typewriters. It’s hard to imagine using a desktop computer without a mouse, but just like keyboards, mice have shortcuts too. These shortcuts are universal and can be used across various applications such as word processors, email, and social media.

1. Zoom in or out: Save time by zooming in or out while working. Simply hold down the CTRL key and spin your scroll wheel up to zoom in or down to zoom out. Some websites and apps, like Google Maps, also allow zooming in and out by scrolling up and down.

2. Change the size of icons: If your icons are too small or you have too many, you can adjust their size using your mouse. Click on your desktop background, hold down the CTRL key, and scroll your mouse wheel up or down to increase or decrease the size of your icons. All your icons will change size simultaneously and remain proportional to each other.

3. Select a word or paragraph: Double-clicking on a word highlights it. However, triple-clicking on a word will highlight the entire paragraph it belongs to. This trick also works for highlighting a word in a URL or the entire URL itself.

4. Select a column of text: You can easily copy and move text by holding down the SHIFT key, left-clicking, and dragging the text. This shortcut is commonly used in Excel, but it also works in Word documents. Hold down ALT + left click and drag the cursor over the text you want to highlight. Release the ALT key and mouse button to access a context menu with options for your highlighted text.

5. Copy and move items: To copy and paste text, highlight the desired text, hold down CTRL + left click, and drag the text to the desired location. Release the mouse button, and the text will be copied and pasted. To move text, hold down SHIFT + left click and drag the text to the new location. Release the mouse button, and the text will disappear from its original position and appear in the new one.

6. Open a link in a new browser tab: Instead of right-clicking and selecting the “new tab” option from the menu, you can simply click on a link with your scroll wheel to open it in a new tab, without losing the page you’re currently on.

7. A new way to scroll: Instead of spinning the scroll wheel up and down, simply press it in. A small circle with a dot and two arrows will appear. Now you can move your mouse up and down to scroll through the page. This method reduces strain on your fingers. Some mouse models even have tilting scroll wheels that allow for horizontal scrolling by tilting the wheel left or right.

By knowing these shortcuts and utilizing them effectively, you can navigate your computer with ease and efficiency, sounding like a tech pro, even if you’re not!
