Authorities have identified the unfortunate case of a 68-year-old woman who lost her life after a motorcycle accident on Interstate 10 near Desert Hot Springs. The Riverside County coroner’s office confirmed that the victim was Cheryl McCoy, originally from Phoenix, Arizona.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning, around 11:24 a.m., when the California Highway Patrol received a report of a solo-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 10 near the Palm Drive exit.
According to CHP Public Information Officer David Torres, a 63-year-old man and the 68-year-old woman were riding a green Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a small trailer at a speed of approximately 70 mph. The man made an unsafe left turn at a certain point, causing the motorcycle to lose control and overturn into the center divider of the freeway.
Both individuals were ejected from the motorcycle and rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center with severe injuries. However, the woman sadly passed away due to the seriousness of her injuries at 12:58 p.m. on Thursday, as confirmed by coroner’s officials.
The authorities have ruled out alcohol or drugs as factors in the crash.
