The San Francisco 49ers have encountered some significant scheduling disadvantages throughout the 2023 NFL season. However, they will have a rest advantage when they face the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday in Week 13.
This upcoming game will be the 49ers’ second and final one with a rest advantage in the entire 17-game season. Their earlier Week 4 victory over the Arizona Cardinals followed a few extra days of rest after a win over the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football the previous week.
The additional advantage of a Thanksgiving game, a win over the Seattle Seahawks, allows the 49ers to go into their game with the Eagles with extra rest. This factor is particularly noteworthy after a grueling game for the Eagles’ defense in their overtime win over the Buffalo Bills.
It’s unusual for the 49ers to enjoy extra rest, but their schedule is more challenging than their opponents, including four games against teams fresh off their bye week.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the 49ers even after the game against the Eagles. The team faces more challenges with a short week and travel involved in subsequent games.
After analyzing the NFL schedule, it’s evident that the 49ers have a league-high 26 days of rest disadvantage, making their schedule the most challenging.
While extra rest can be beneficial, the 49ers understand the tough task at hand when facing the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The locker room and coaching staff are aware of the challenges and are focused on what it takes to win.
