A 22-year-old individual suspected in a late-night shooting that resulted in injuries for two people in Palm Springs has been formally charged with attempted murder. Joel Ramirez Benitez, who resides in Palm Springs, also faces a felony count of assault with a gun, according to court records. Additionally, he has been accused of causing great bodily injury, which could lead to a more severe sentence.
Mr. Benitez is scheduled to appear for arraignment this afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The Palm Springs Police Department received a call at 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, reporting a shooting in the 2600 block of East Tahquitz Canyon Way. Two individuals were shot and sustained gunshot wounds, thankfully not life-threatening.
