2 Notable GOP Candidates to Skip 2nd Debate – What to Expect?

As Republicans gather for the second debate of the 2024 primary season, one candidate will be notably absent. Former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson did not meet the requirements to participate in Wednesday night’s debate and will instead be holding a press conference in Michigan. The Republican National Committee has announced that the other seven candidates from the first debate did qualify. To be eligible, candidates had to meet donor requirements, polling requirements, and sign a pledge of support for the eventual GOP nominee.

The candidates who have qualified for the second debate are Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, Doug Burgum, and Mike Pence, according to the AP. Notably, Donald Trump has chosen to skip the debate once again and instead give a speech to union workers in Michigan. In a previous speech on Monday, Trump mentioned skipping the first debate hosted by Fox, which resulted in the network cutting away from the broadcast. As of now, only Trump, DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and Haley have met the criteria to participate in the third debate taking place in Miami in November, as reported by Politico.
