One Year Ago Today (October 9, 2022)…The trial of former film producer Harvey Weinstein is set to begin in Los Angeles after he was extradited from New York. This trial revolves around sex-related counts involving five women.
In January 2020, Los Angeles County prosecutors initially charged Weinstein, now 70, with forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, and sexual penetration by use of force against one woman on February 18, 2013. They also charged him with sexual battery by restraint against another woman a day later.
In April 2020, Weinstein faced an additional charge of sexual battery by restraint involving another woman. Prosecutors further added six counts in November 2020, including three counts each of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation. These charges involved two alleged victims in Beverly Hills between 2004 and 2010.
Following the grand jury’s indictment, Weinstein was extradited from New York, where he had already been convicted of rape and a criminal sex act. He is currently appealing those convictions.
The trial, taking place in downtown Los Angeles, is expected to last approximately two months, encompassing the jury selection process.
Weinstein, known for producing award-winning films such as “Shakespeare in Love” and “Pulp Fiction,” remains incarcerated.
