1 person dead, another injured in shooting on Diamond Bar freeway – Orange County Register

A tragic incident occurred on the southbound 57 Freeway near the merge with the 60 in Diamond Bar late Tuesday night, Aug. 1. A man lost his life and a woman sustained injuries when an unidentified suspect opened fire on their car for reasons unknown. During the incident, a pickup truck also became a target.

Surprisingly, the white Hyundai Sonata carrying the victims ended up more than 30 miles away near a residence in Costa Mesa. The driver of the Sonata eventually called 911, although it remains unclear why they continued to Costa Mesa. The injured woman, who was in the front passenger seat, received medical treatment for a gunshot wound to her leg and was later released.

Fortunately, the Sonata’s driver and the occupants of the Toyota Tacoma truck were unharmed. One of the Tacoma occupants also reported the shooting at 11:23 p.m. As of now, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has not located the suspect and does not possess any descriptions of the suspect or their vehicle.

In terms of the investigation, the CHP closed the transition roads near the shooting scene for four hours. Any individuals with information regarding the incident have been urged to contact the CHP at 626-338-1164. The Costa Mesa Police have redirected all media inquiries to the CHP.

Overall, this tragic event on the 57 Freeway serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the need for justice in such cases. The CHP’s efforts to find the suspect and determine the motive behind the shooting will hopefully bring closure to the victims and their families.
